Laura Shin Says:

“This is what I like about Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is a holistic practice with five pillars—acupuncture, tuina massage, herbal medicine, nutrition, and prescribed movement called medical qi gong. Cupping, gua sha, and moxabustion fall under our purview as well, each based on the meridian or channel system found in Eastern Medicine. As a Registered Acupuncturist I’ve been trained in all of the disciplines (though I won’t be adding herbal medicine to the tool kit until April 2022). During my time as a Registered Acupuncturist, I’ve loved helping people reduce stress and anxiety, sleep better, ease their chronic pain, reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines, improve their digestion, have safe and healthy pregnancies, and fewer menopausal symptoms. I can use one or all of the modalities in each treatment to ensure everyone who comes to see me takes a big step on their healing journey.”

Acupuncture &

Traditional Chinese Medicine

In Ontario, acupuncture is both a modality (method of treatment) and, when it is performed by a Registered Acupuncturist or Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, a complete healthcare system. Registered Acupuncture services include a full diagnosis and treatment strategy that can include the insertion of thin needles into the skin (the modality called acupuncture), tuina massage (which is massage based on the channel or meridian system found in TCM), cupping (the placement of vacuum-sealed cups on the skin), moxabustion (the safe and gentle heating of a herb applied to or above the skin), auricular (ear) therapy, which might include needling or the use of non-invasive ear seeds, or gua sha (which uses a tool to apply pressure to the skin to relieve pain and tension).

Registered Acupuncture services can treat many ailments and health concerns and conditions. While best known for chronic and acute pain, it can also treat the following (plus many other issues):

·Menopausal symptoms

·Migraines and headaches

·Stress, anxiety, depression

·Fertility and reproductive health (including pregnancy—both pre and post natal)

·Gynecological concerns

·Digestive disorders

·Skin conditions and allergies
